Importing ChatGPT and Claude conversations

Bring your ChatGPT or Claude conversations into GreenPT, then continue them in Chat. Start by downloading an export from the service you used. You do not need to share your ChatGPT or Claude password with GreenPT.

Before you start

Use the GreenPT webapp. In Settings, look for Import chats and the ChatGPT or Claude option. If these options are missing, ask your GreenPT administrator or support whether chat history import is enabled.

Keep the original export as a backup. GreenPT imports conversation text; it does not recreate every feature of the original service.

Export from ChatGPT

1. Sign in to ChatGPT in your browser and open your profile menu.
2. Go to Settings → Data controls.
3. Under Export data, select Export, then Confirm export.
4. Wait for the email or SMS with the download link. Preparing an export can take up to seven days.
5. While signed in to the same account, download the ZIP within 24 hours of receiving the link.

Export availability depends on your account or workspace. If the option is missing, check OpenAI’s export instructions for account restrictions and alternatives.

Export from Claude

1. Sign in to Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop.
2. Open the menu by your initials and choose Settings → Privacy.
3. Select Export data.
4. Wait for the email sent to your account address.
5. Follow the download link while signed in to Claude. The link expires after 24 hours.

Claude’s individual export is available on Free, Pro and Max plans. The iOS and Android apps do not offer export. Team and Enterprise members should contact their organisation’s Primary Owner about data access. See Claude’s export instructions.

Import into GreenPT

1. Open GreenPT Settings and select Import chats.
2. Choose the provider that created your file: ChatGPT or Claude.
3. Upload the export ZIP or conversations.json. For a Claude manifest JSON, follow its download checklist and add the listed category ZIPs, then choose Preview import. Stay signed in to Claude when downloading; add files you already downloaded if their single-use links have been used.
4. Review the conversation titles and warnings. Select all available conversations or choose individual ones; use search and the page controls to find them.
5. Choose Import conversations, with the count shown on the button.
6. After starting the import, you can close Settings. Return to Import chats to check progress and the imported, duplicate, unsupported and failed counts.
7. Use Open chat on an imported conversation to continue it. You can also find it in Chat history. Use Load older chats if it is beyond the first page.

Import one provider’s export at a time. Re-importing the same source conversation skips it rather than replacing your GreenPT copy or changes you made there.

What is included

GreenPT preserves supported user and assistant text, conversation titles, available dates and message order. For ChatGPT conversations with several branches, it imports the active branch from the export.

Claude projects, memories, design chats and account metadata are preserved as labeled JSON records in Chat history, including project instructions and document text. These records do not create GreenPT folders, activate memory entries or change your settings.

Images, binary file attachments, tool activity, hidden reasoning, other branches and rich artifacts in conversation messages are not imported. Review any warnings before confirming. You can attach a needed file again when continuing a chat in GreenPT.

File limits and troubleshooting

• File too large: the upload limit is 100 MiB, with up to 10,000 conversations. The conversation JSON must also fit within 100 MiB after extraction. If a ZIP is too large because it contains attachments, extract and upload only conversations.json.
• Wrong format or unreadable archive: check the selected provider and use its original export. ChatGPT ZIPs must contain one conversations.json. Claude also supports category ZIPs containing individual JSON records. For a manifest, add ZIPs with the exact filenames listed in its checklist. Renaming an HTML or PDF file to JSON will not make it importable.
• Some conversations are unsupported: read their warnings. A conversation without supported text cannot be imported.
• Some conversations failed: use Retry failed conversations when offered. Successfully imported chats are kept.
• Import expired: upload the export again. Temporary import data expires after 24 hours; chats you imported remain in your history.
• No import option: availability is controlled by your GreenPT administrator. Ask them or support for help.
